My name is Upinder Gill and I am passionate about scientific advancements that support our agriculture and farmers/producers.
I was born and brought up in a farmer’s family in the northern part of India. The firsthand experience with problems and issues in agriculture helped me develop a special connection with plants and soil. To understand the science behind agriculture, I joined the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) program in agriculture at Punjab Agricultural University, India. By the end of my B.Sc., I was becoming more interested in innovating and creating something new using my agricultural knowledge and experience. That was the turning point of my life because instead of going back to our family farm, I decided to join a graduate school to work towards my masters in plant breeding. The whole process helped to cultivate in me a professional attitude towards scientific research, writing, and presentation.
Knowledge is unlimited, and it is up to us where we set our limits. The quest for knowledge brought me to the United States of America. Joining the Ph.D. program at Washington State University, Pullman, WA was another step forward toward achieving my long-term goals. Here, the credit goes to my Ph.D. supervisor who sharpened my scientific and professional skills especially in genetics and plant pathology and made me a complete scientist. I continued my scientific journey by working as a postdoctoral fellow at Noble Research Institute, Ardmore, OK and the University of Florida. In my scientific career, I worked with some wonderful people/scientists who inspired me to serve society with my scientific knowledge. I am looking forward to new scientific challenges in the future.
Thank you for your time and interest. Please feel free to contact me if you have further questions.
